We offer a curriculum that secures essential knowledge and skills whilst giving the children many opportunities to use and apply their mathematical skills across the curriculum, through real life problem solving and mathematical investigations.

Mathletics

Every child in the school is signed up to the award-winning Mathletics website and given a personal password to give them access. This interactive website is full of helpful guidance, games and challenges. Mathletics is a great resource that inspires the children to rehearse their Maths skills at home, please encourage them to use the site. 

TTRockstars

Children in Year 2 to Year 6 have access to the TTRockstars website. TTRockstars is a carefully sequenced programme of times tables practice, which enables children to learn their times tables facts as they progress from a Wannabe to a Rock Legend! It helps children to make links between the multiplication and division facts to support them in many elements of mathematical calculation.

How can parents and carers help?

Every parent and carer can do their bit to help inspire their children to be successful in Maths by:

• Help them practice their times tables. Remember to use the Mathletics website to help you- there are some cracking times table songs and live Mathletics helps with quick mental maths recall- little and often is best!
• Show your child that you like the subject giving them the confidence that they can do it too.
• Go shopping with real money (not a credit card) so that children can experience using coins, paying bills and experiencing ‘change’.
• Let children apply maths at home- whether it is using litre jugs in the bath for measuring liquids or weighing ingredients in the kitchen- real life practise really helps children to understand how to estimate measures and apply knowledge.
• Play board games like Snakes and Ladders, Monopoly, Pop to the Shops, Top Trumps etc
• Help children to understand how to use bus or train timetables, maps, co-ordinates by playing ‘Battleships’
• Teach children how to tell the time- ask questions: What time is the TV programme they would like to watch? When does it start? When does it finish? How long is it on for?
